WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT ON MY 1ST VISIT TO BACK TO ZEN MASSAGE?

I will require you to fill out a health history form, followed by a few general questions to determine the best type of massage for you, and what areas you would like me to work on, and if there are any contraindications that would prohibit me from giving you a massage.

What are contraindications?
There are certain conditions that will prohibit me from giving you a massage. Such as....

Were you in a car accident this week?  If so, please wait until it doesn’t hurt as much. Your muscles are already inflamed too much as it is. Even if it's a small fender bender please refrain from seeking a massage. Most pain isn't felt for one to two days after an impact.

Do you have a fever?  If so, please reschedule,  I use the same policy as the schools.  You need to be fever free without medication for 24 hours.

Are you drunk or high?   Then your massage will be cancelled and you will still be liable to pay for the service, you may reschedule when you’re not.

Where will my massage take place?

Your massage will take place in the comfort of your home. Please make sure that there is plenty of room to set up the massage table and that there is plenty of room for me to move around it.  Pleasae refrain from using a bedroom as such a place for your massage to take place.

What do I wear during the massage?

Most people completely undress for a full body massage, but that is up to you.  You may choose to wear your underwear.   I will step out and give you privacy to undress and have you lie down in between the two sheets on the table.  You will be covered with a sheet, and only the area I am working on will be uncovered.  I practice strict draping methods at all times.

I forgot to shave!  Does that matter?

Don’t be silly.  I don’t care about that, and honestly I wouldn't even have noticed.

Is it okay to get a massage right after a Yoga class?

Absolutely its okay.

What type of oils and lotions do you use?

I have a wide assortment of oils and lotions I use.

Sometimes I use oil blended with an essential oil.

I use lotion with no essential oils added for those who don't not like or who have allergies to certain essential oils.

There may be ingredients in the oils you may be allergic to.  Please indicate on the health history form if you have any sort of allergies to scents, foods, or nuts.  While I’m trained in first aide, I don’t have an epi-pen on hand.

Will I be pain free right away?

Pain is complex.  It’s created by your habits, the work you do, and your past and present injuries.  It’s also strongly influenced by stress and even your mindset.   If you come in with chronic hip pain that you’ve had for years, it’s unlikely it will be completely pain free after only one session.    In this instance, you’ll most likely be pain free after a series of sessions.  It could take a weeks, or months.
